"'Yes,' I answered. 'You are armed, and I'm not. So you can do whatever you want to me.'"
Evariste Bindariye and Jacqueline Nkurikiye (Continued.)

Evariste: Sometime later I heard about a child they wanted to kill. I run quickly to that place.

"What are doing here?" the killer asked.

"I'm coming to take that child."

"Do you know him?"

"Yes I do," I said.

He was furious. "Then I'm going to kill you first," he said.

"Yes," I answered. "You are armed, and I'm not. So you can do whatever you want to me."

He stared at me, and then turned his back to us. We saw him moving away. The child and I ran as quickly as we could.

We went to look for the child's family. They lived on another hill, near Muriza. When we arrived there we found houses burning. The hill was on fire. We then decided to go to the parish. I met the priest and told him what's happened to the young boy. The priest's name was Peter. He told me I was right to save the boy. He told the young boy to go and take a bath. I left him there in the care of the priest.

Now the young boy is in secondary school. He studies in Rusengo. His aunt Veronique lives here, in Nyaburondwe. She sometimes gives me news from him.

I saved many other people who were in trouble. Seraphine, Nzeyimana, Patricia. I helped them all to get to Ruyigi.
