"She stayed by the door and said to them: 'Why do you want to kill her? What mistake did she commit? Nothing will make me deliver her to you.'"
Léonie Barakomeza, Nicodème Ntahomvukiye and Françoise Minami (Continued.)

Léonie: The following morning, Nicodème's wife said they had to leave that area because of the incident. I prayed God to guide them on their way. They left Musaga.

Nicodème: Léonie helped us to escape. It was not possible to escape with our belongings. Although that night the killers did not burn my house, they destroyed it later. They took everything, we did not get anything from the house. There is grass and I sometimes come back to cultivate my land. But one day, if I am able to afford it, I will go back to live there. But we have not yet moved back there.

I am still thankful that Léonie and her neighbors who helped us to escape. If it was not their intervention, we would not have left the place and we would have been killed there. That is my story, I have no more to add.

Léonie: Another time, I was able to rescue Françoise and her two children.

Françoise: I arrived in Musaga from my home in Busoro. I was carrying two children. There I was stopped by men I did not know. They were armed with machetes, axes, hoes, and they wanted to kill me. They ordered me to put the children down. Just then, Léonie appeared. "Do not do it, do not do it!" she shouted at them. "Why do you want to kill that mother?"

Léonie: I managed to save her and provided her with a place where she spent the evening.

Françoise: After she had rescued me, she took me into her home. She hid me there. They followed her and told her they wanted to kill me. They swore they would not leave without killing me. She stayed by the door. "Why do you want to kill her? What mistake did she commit?" She asked. "Nothing will make me give her up to you!"
